Open the setup guide
The browser companion lets your browser hand supported downloads to the Duvrin app. Start with Duvrin open from Applications.
- In Duvrin, open Settings → Extensions.
- Choose Set Up Browser… or Set Up Another Browser….
- Select the browser you actually use, then choose Set Up Browser.
- Follow the guide in that browser and that browser profile. Installing in one profile does not install it in every profile.
Use the browsers listed as supported by your Duvrin release. A browser appearing in the setup picker does not mean every release has been tested with it.
Chrome: the guided installation
The in-app guide walks you through loading a prepared local extension folder:
- Choose Open Extensions Page in the guide.
- Turn on Developer mode near the top of Chrome’s extensions page.
- Choose Load unpacked.
- Use Show Extension Folder in Duvrin to locate the prepared folder, then select it. For a new setup it is named Duvrin-Chrome-Extension. Use the folder the guide supplies rather than creating or moving your own copy.
- If needed, choose Copy Folder Path. In the folder chooser press Command–Shift–G, paste the path, press Return, then choose Select or Open.
- Confirm that Duvrin appears on Chrome’s extensions page and is enabled.
Keep the prepared extension folder in place, because Chrome continues to use it after installation. This is a manual installation, not an automatic Chrome Web Store installation. Chrome’s own documentation covers loading an unpacked extension in its “Get started” guide for extensions.
If Duvrin reports an extension update, follow Update Browser Extension…, then choose Reload on Duvrin’s entry in Chrome’s extensions page when instructed.
Firefox: install the signed add-on
- Select Firefox in Duvrin’s setup guide.
- Choose Open Extension to open the signed add-on in Firefox. If macOS asks which app to use, choose Firefox.
- Review the browser’s permissions, then choose Add or Install.
- Check that the companion is enabled, then reload your download page.
If nothing opens, choose Show Extension File in Duvrin. In Firefox, open about:addons, then use the Extensions settings menu → Install Add-on From File… and select the signed Duvrin XPI file. If the signed file is unavailable, contact support.
Check the connection
- Keep Duvrin running.
- Open the companion from your browser’s extensions menu. Pinning it to the toolbar is convenient.
- Wait for Ready, then reload the page containing the file or media you want to save.
- Complete one supported download to confirm the whole handoff. A status label on its own does not prove a file was saved.
The companion connects automatically in current supported setups. Connection code in older versions is a legacy option, not a registration code. Never enter your purchased activation code into the browser companion.
Permissions and download confirmation
The companion needs access to relevant web pages and download activity to detect downloadable items and hand them to Duvrin. Review the permissions your browser shows; restricting site access can affect detection.
For your first test, leave Start browser downloads immediately off in Settings → Extensions so you can review the download panel and destination before anything is saved.
If the browser reports that Duvrin is offline, work through troubleshooting.
